Olympian O`Rourke tops indoor athletics bill

Ireland`s top Olympic runner once again will top the bill at the Belfast City Council supported Irish Indoor Senior Athletics Championships at the Odyssey Arena on 6 and 7 February.

Hurdler Derval O`Rourke will be among those vying for their place on the Irish team for the World Indoor Championships in Doha later this year.

In 2009. O`Rourke broke her own Irish record when finishing fourth in the 100m hurdles final at the World Championships in Berlin, and was just 0.12 of a second outside the medals when she clocked 12.67 – the fastest time of the year over the distance by a European athlete.

The Woodie`s DIY Irish Indoor Senior Championships, being held in Belfast for the seventh consecutive year, is the biggest event on the Irish athletics calendar, with upwards of 1,000 top class athletes participating.

Also appearing at the Odyssey will be Northern Ireland hurdler Christine McMahon, holder of the Irish youth record for the 400m hurdles, and lagan Valley AC 800m runner Adam Ingram.

The Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Danny Lavery, said:

“Belfast City Council is dedicated to the development of sport. We are proud to support this event now in its seventh year and are pleased to be working in partnership with Athletics Northern Ireland and the Athletic Association of Ireland to deliver this prestigious event for Belfast.”

Tickets for the Woodie`s DIY Irish Indoor Athletic Championships, at the Odyssey Arena on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February are available now from Ticketmaster, costing from £12 for adults and £8 for children and concession holders.
